BEST CHARACTER PROGRAM

The TPS BEST Character Program is designed to build leadership qualities, increase parental involvement, and pro- mote academic achievement. We strive to reduce the amount of office referrals and build academic gains and effective parental involvement. Studies of effective school and after school programs show that they can contribute to many positive outcomes, including fewer crimes and incidents of vandalism, improved academic performance, and decreased drug use among children and youth.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

TPS Character Programs - We believe that this program will help decrease repetitive difficult behaviors that continually take away from the education of other students. These programs are designed to reiterate that education in a safe environment is a priority and problematic behaviors will not be tolerated.

The features of the BEST Character program include:

  • Expectations and consequences that are clearly stated and explained to all students.
  • Stress on self-respect, regard for others a spirit of pride.
  • Rules that are consistently and fairly enforced.Teachers contacting parents to share any disciplinary, accident or other concerns.
  • Teachers not sharing explicit details with anyone other than parent(s) or guardian(s).
  • Students write their version in the space provided on disciplinary referral for conferencing and redirecting.

Students begin with 100 points each 9-weeks. Students that have maintained 80 points at the end of the 9-weeks are invited to the IMAGE RALLY. Students with 100 points will receive a special privilege day. If a student falls below zero, parents will be contacted and scheduled for a conference with the teachers and an administrator. Any student receiving Assistant Principal Referral or other infractions that call for immediate administrative actions in a grading period will not attend the IMAGE RALLY for that 9-weeks.

The Student Code of Conduct is the main document for disciplnary proceedings. TPS will utilize Class Dojo and Remind communication platforms for assisting with managing behavior. Students must strive to maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, must not have committed a severe behavior infraction, must not have been referred to the after school detention program during the current school year, and must not be involved in any on-going pattern of misbehavior. Students must strive to maintain the aforementioned expectations. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action that may include removal from office.
