Welcome to Ms. Patrick’s "UNSTOPPABLE" Top Chef Readers Class!
I hope you are ready for an “UNSTOPPABLE” sixth grade year because we’re “Creating Recipes for Success in Reading!” Welcome back!! My name is Ms. Patrick and I will be your child/children’s reading teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. We have lots to learn and lots of work to do to prepare for middle school. I’m so excited about being your child’s teacher. I am looking forward to the great novels that we will read this year, all of the learning that will take place, and all the exciting adventures we will undertake at Tuskegee Public Elementary School (Indian Academy).
As a parent, I know that it is very inevitable to have a parent-teacher partnership. As your child’s teacher, I have high expectations for ALL of my students.
As a teacher, I believe every student is capable of learning by using various strategies that will help meet the needs of each individual student in my class, along with your help as well. I can be reached by Class Dojo, email at patrickcl@maconk12.org, or at (334)727-3222 during school hours.
It is very IMPORTANT that you and your child both join Class Dojo. I typically send out important classroom and school information and classroom behavior through Class Dojo and/or School Status. Please refer to my class/school websites on my webpage for additional information.
So get ready, buckle up, and let’s get ready to take an exciting adventure this year in reading! Sixth grade is the absolute best!
Class Rules and Behavior Expectations
Our classroom rules are listed below:
Be Responsible (complete ALL assignments in Google Classroom)
Be Respectful (to everyone)
Be Ready
ALWAYS Do your best
I expect students to be responsible for their own behavior and belongings, be respectful towards their classmates and their teacher, and be ready to learn and have fun!
I encourage positive behavior through a variety of individual and class rewards. Negative consequences include loss of privileges and contact with parents when appropriate.
Class Consequences
1. Verbal Warning
2. Call Home
3. After school Detention (Office referral)
4. Parent Conference
5. AP Referral (possible suspension)
* *Serious offenses can, at the teacher’s discretion, result in more severe consequences regardless of previous steps taken.
Homework Expectations
Students will generally have a reading assignment for 30 minutes each night. Assignments will usually involve practicing high frequency words, amazing words, reading concepts learned that day in class, writing, etc. Homework is 5% of the grading policy.
Students are responsible for their homework each given day. Please check periodically to make certain your student is completing their homework assignments. This is a great habit for success in junior high.
Students who have completed and turned in all of their homework assignments will have the opportunity to earn small prizes, treats, and homework passes on Fridays.
Students will generally have a week to complete each homework assignments unless they have assignments that have not been completed during their class time. Failure to complete homework assignments when due will result in a zero. Homework can not be made up.
Absences
Students who are absent will have 3 school days to make up missed assignments if the absence is excused. It is the students’ responsibility to check with the teacher for assignments that are missed during their absence. Missing and incomplete assignments will result in the student receiving a grade of "0" for that assignment(s). Any missed assignments must be scheduled with the teacher and completed during their PE time ONLY. If a student is absent the day that their homework assignment is due, it must be turned in the same day that the student returns to school or the grade will be a zero for their homework assignment.
Grading Policy
Grading categories and weights are to be as follows for grades 4-6:
a. Tests: 40%
b. Major Projects: 35%
