About the Superintendent

 

As the Superintendent of Macon County Public Schools, Dr. Melissa Williams is passionate about ensuing academic excellence and paving the way to post-graduate success for the District’s scholars who attend six schools. She is deeply committed to the School Board’s mission to prepare students to follow a choice for success and impact the world.

 

Dr. Williams tenure as Superintendent began in January 2022. She was unanimously selected by the School Board because of her extensive experience with District positions and administration spanning 22 years with Macon County Schools. Dr. Williams worked as an Elementary Teacher, District-wide Elementary Resource Specialist, Assistant Principal, Principal, Director of Human Resources and Professional Learning, and Director of Secondary Curriculum.

 

Prior to her time in Macon County, Dr. Williams worked as an Adult Education Instructor,  Benefits Plan Supervisor, Client Relations Representative, Business Analyst,  and Claims Examiner. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from Faulkner University, a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management from Troy University Montgomery, a Master of Education degree in Elementary Education from Alabama State University, a Master of Education in School Counseling from Alabama State University, an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Auburn University Montgomery, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Administration of Elementary and Secondary Education from Auburn University.

 

Dr. Williams grew up in Montgomery, Alabama and is the proud mom of one adult son, Christian. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Material Sciences from Tuskegee University in 2019. Christian is employed as an engineer with Occidental Chemical Corporation in Houston, Texas.

Through collaboration and partnership with parents and the community, we aim to create a supportive network that empowers scholars to explore their potential, embrace their uniqueness, and develop the skills necessary to succeed academically and personally.
